London and Leeds based artist, photographer and aspiring architect, Ben Erikson focuses mainly on street, architectural and landscape photography, although he is not afraid to venture out and explore other styles and media.
When walking through the city so often we look straight ahead or even at our feet, seeing the everyday grittiness of the city yet missing out on the pure beauty that can be found by simply looking up into the concrete jungles. It’s in this area of drastic contrast that Ben finds great intrigue.
As an advocate for Brutalism, Erikson was fascinated by Le Corbusier’s La Cité Radieuse, building ‘streets in the sky’ thus creating the sense of large neighbourhoods with opportunities for strong communal interaction and understanding the effect this can have on communities and societies. Which Erikson tries to capture and portray through his photography.
Ben's love for surfing, snowboarding and splitboarding, of which he has done for the last 15 years, have allowed him a fresh perspective of the world we live in today. Erikson's ventures into the backcountry seen in his projects 'Snow' and 'Snow II' highlight not only the immense beauty to be found, but also the extremely unforgiving nature and terrain of our world, a reminder of how small we truly are.
